Most tax practitioners would at one time or another, felt discouraged at being unable to locate a particular issue or tax ruling, etc. From a practitioner’s perspective, one must acknowledge that a substantial amount of time and cost is being needlessly wasted on researching and looking for tax materials/rulings, etc. that one had come across previously. Hence, the Malaysian Institute of Taxation (MIT) decided to publish a comprehensive tax manual containing a complete categorisation of tax materials and issues that are normally referred to by our practicing members. This publication was undertaken as part of the Institute’s continuing mission to assist and ease, members in discharging their respective duties as tax advisors under Self Assessment.

The MIT Tax Handbook is a comprehensive 600 page manual covering a wide range of topics which include:-
- A complete reproduction of all the Guidelines, Rulings and Practice Notes issued by the Inland Revenue Board
- A comprehensive summary of the P.U. Orders issued in the last few years
- A summary of tax cases
- A short introduction on Field Audits
- Sample of engagement letters
- Simple notes on how to apply for a tax agent’s licence under Section 153
- A complete collection of the technical and operational
|
The MIT Tax Handbook will be updated annually, and the first update is already in the pipeline and will extend the current number of tax cases summarized to include tax cases reported in the last 25 years. No longer would practitioners need to read voluminous legal cases, as the MIT Tax Handbook will summarise each tax case into “fact, judgement and tax issue”, for easy of reference. In short, the MIT Tax Handbook is the most comprehensive compilation of practice notes, guides and summaries and practitioners will find this easy-to-use reference, a useful tool in locating the issues that will illuminate the fog of uncertainty.
